The Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) Water Company opened The Lake Tallac - Storm Water Diversion Gate partially open for about 15-20 minutes. On Sunday January 8th 2017 at approximately 1:30 PM, to allow Water to discharge into the West Lagoons of the TKPOA.
This was done to test the operations of the Lake Tallac - Storm Water Diversion Gate, and to determine its use to lower the lake level due to the forecasted rain/snow for the rest of the day.
There was a concern as well prior to this that the water was not flowing property through the Lake Tallac Weir area into the Pope Marsh. Later the flow in this Weir area was confirmed that is was flowing, since it seemed that a snow drift was blocking the flow until about 1:15 we think, when the water in upper marsh broke through the snow drifts into the lower marsh. The water flow from upper into lower Pope Marsh was flowing fast.
We also checked the weir behind the TKPOA houses at the extreme west end of Lake Tallac. Water was flowing fast out of Lake Tallac westward into upper Pope Marsh, this was confirmed after 1:30PM on January, 8th 2017.
